Tabula Raza, BGY2K
When I was in grad school I had the good fortune to work with John Balistreri and learn about anagama wood-fired ceramics. Although not a ceramic artist, I was inspired to explore this elemental process to engage the creative community around me. Over the course of about 6 months, I invited 40 or so other artists into my studio for a series of intimate collaborations on thick slabs of clay. Over 100 individual pieces were created, which were then fired together in the wood kiln, and eventually installed outside the School of Art.
